Species of Birds Sri Lanka

Species of Birds Sri Lanka. In the case of some binds , such as the Blue and White Flycatcher , establishing the status as a vagrant is easy . This is a bird that winters in Southeast Asia and there is only one record of it in South Asia ; a recent record from Sri Lanka . This is clearly a vagrant . There are other birds , such as waders and seabirds like petrels , which at the time of recording tay have had only one record or a few records . However , with more observers and increasingly high skill levels among them , and as more people take to sea watching or going out on pelagic trips , some of these birds may have their status revised to highly scarce migrants , scarce migrants or uncommon migrants .

The following lists are conservative ; species are treated as vagrants if the records are few in number , but as stated above status details could change with better observation . At present , among the birds recorded in Sri Lanka 15 are treated as occurring only as highly scarce migrants and 99 as vagrants.

Where a bird has more than one subspecies occurring in Sri Lanka , its status is treated as that of the most abundant subspecies and it is not treated as a highly scarce migrant or vagrant .
